Our First Vinyl

Our First Vinyl

Since we first started this label, we’ve been dreaming of branching into physical releases, especially cassettes and vinyl. Looks like 2019 is our year, as we’ve officially got some buns in the oven, our first 7 inch record baking and pressing as we type this.

Golden Grey came to us through an email submission, and we were blown away by his tunes. His music style was true and realized, and he came to us with a full album that we were eager to help release. After multiple phone calls spent making sure that Golden Grey knew what Biblioteka Records was all about, and verifying that we were on the same wavelength, we were stoked to have him join the team. We always love celebrating Canadian artists, and we already know that Edmonton is making a name for itself with some next-level electronic artists. It made sense that we chose to go with Golden Grey for our first physical release; his songs lent themselves easily to listening and were beautiful, and we wanted to support him as much as we could. So we said we’d do it. And now it’s happening.

We decided to go with “One” as the first single, and of course, it all seems so serendipitous now; Golden Grey’s upcoming album is all about numbers, and we never feel bad about being a smaller label, as we know there’s a first time for everything. Originally, we wanted to accompany it with another song from the album, “Three,” but Golden Grey brought up the idea of an exclusive remix, and we jumped at the opportunity.

It feels really surreal to be saying this, but we are going to have a physical release soon! On vinyl, no less! We’re completely in awe of what we’ve done; after all, we’ve only been running this label for just under a year and half, and we didn’t think we’d have anything “real” to show for it for a while. This feels amazing. It’s just so cool to know that soon, we’ll be able to hold a physical manifestation of everything that we’ve been working on in our hands, to see our record in stores and have people all around the world owning it and playing it and adding it to their collections.

Of course, this record wouldn’t be where it is without the help of a huge team. We’d like to thank, of course, Golden Grey, for trusting us with his music and letting us be the ones to release it, for making it in the first place and for being so open to suggestions, so responsive, and so easy to work with. We’d like to thank Audio Insurgency, specifically Ivan Popov, our mastering engineer who did everything right, from mastering our digital copies to the vinyl version, and learning new things along the way. Also a huge thank you to J at Liquor Donuts, our pressing plant of choice, for making this first experience so easy and comfortable for us, thank you to Paulo Sinkski for mocking up these beautiful preview images of the release in such a short time, thank you to Andy Cookson for the incredible artwork and for being there for the constant revisions that had to be made for it, Azzimov for the exclusive remix, and to everyone who supported our dream from the beginning, everyone who’s already pre-ordered a copy and everyone who ever gave Biblioteka Records a quick glance. We really could not have done this alone. Thank you.

This feeling is overwhelming, and exciting, and if we keep doing physical releases, we hope it feels like this every time.

If you haven’t already done so, you can pre-order Biblioteka Records’ first ever physical release and have a part of history with Golden Grey’s upcoming single “One” here. We’re doing a VERY limited run of these, so don’t delay— we don’t know how many are going to be left in a short time!

TL;DR: Thank you to everyone who made this release possible, especially Golden Grey for the music, and to everyone who ever believed in Biblioteka Records, and pre-order your copy today!
